Coaldale - Joseph Brown Private Family Cemetery

Coaldale, Clarence Valley Council, New South Wales, Australia, Oceania

Description

This family grave site is located on John Dutton's property known as "Ridgedale Farm". The grave site sits beyond the Dutton's house and yards. A modern timber fence was built around the graves in 1996 by cousin's Gordon and Rex Brown. At the same time they erected headstones to the children. The site contains five graves, four are members of the Brown family the fifth is that of John Casson father of Elizabeth Brown. There is only one marble headstone which is enscribed to the memory of Elizabeth and Joseph Brown. It was probably placed on the site after the death of Joseph in 1914. This grave is surrounded by a painted wrought iron picket fence. The fence is ornate with every second picket capped with a Fler de Lys which is encircled by the adjacent picket. The marble stelae is semicircular with semicircular shoulders and sits on a plinth. It was made by Matheson & Collins of Grafton. Source - NSW State Heritage.
